ABO blood groups, secretor status, salivary protein, and serum and salivary immunoglobulin concentrations.

چکیده
Serum and salivary protein and immunoglobulin concentrations have been measured in people of different ABO blood groups and secretor status. The results have confirmed that salivary protein concentrations vary markedly according to an individual's blood group tending to be particularly high in people of group A, but have failed to show any parallel variation in serum protein concentrations. No clear differences were detected in immunoglobulin concentrations, although salivary IgA concentrations tended to be slightly higher in ABH secretors than in non-secretors.

Hereditary Aspects of Duodenal Ulceration: Serum-pepsinogen Level in Relation to Abo Blood Groups and Salivary Abh Secretor Status.
secretion (Clarke et al., 1956; Doll et al., 1961) is firmly established. Thus the family studies of Doll and Kellock (1951), which showed evidence of a hereditary factor in duodenal ulcer, have been substantiated by identification of two of the responsible genetic loci-namely, those for the genes determining ABO blood group and salivary ABH secretor status. Though the underlying mechanisms whe...
متن کاملABO blood groups and infantile hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.
An association between blood group A and cancer of the stomach was first reported by Aird, Bentall, and Fraser Roberts (1953). Further associations between blood groups and gastrointestinal disorders have since been described (Clarke, 1964a). This paper reports an investigation into the ABO blood group distribution and salivary secretor status of patients with infantile hypertrophic pyloric ste...
متن کاملConfirmation of Association between Abo Blood Groups and Salivary Abh Secretor Phenotypes and Electrophoretic Patterns of Serum Alkaline Phosphatase.
Arfors, Beckman, and Lundin (i963), who had studied Swedish twin subjects, first pointed out that (i) serum alkaline phosphatases are present in either one or two electrophoretic bands which are under genetic control, (2) that their patterns are closely associated with the ABO blood groups in that the second electrophoretic alkaline phosphatase band is rarely found in adult subjects possessing ...
متن کاملRole of ABO Secretor Status in Mucosal Innate Immunity and H. pylori Infection
The fucosylated ABH antigens, which constitute the molecular basis for the ABO blood group system, are also expressed in salivary secretions and gastrointestinal epithelia in individuals of positive secretor status; however, the biological function of the ABO blood group system is unknown. Gastric mucosa biopsies of 41 Rhesus monkeys originating from Southern Asia were analyzed by immunohistoch...
متن کاملInfluence of the ABO blood group and salivary ABH secretor status on the cell-removing effect of aspirin on human gastric mucosa.
EDITORIAL COMMENT The association of duodenal ulcer with blood group 0 and salivary ABH non-secretion, and the apparent increased likelihood of bleeding in patients of blood group 0 with duodenal ulcer, are not understood. A new approach to the problem is provided by this carefully executed investigation which demonstrates an interaction between blood group and secretor status, and cell loss fr...
